From elephants and rhinos to Mickey Mouse.

Bullitt East Beta Club just recently completed their annual Boo at the Zoo charity event, where the high schoolers pass out candy to kids at the Louisville zoo.

The the zoo is a place to see exotic animals you cannot see anywhere else, this event flips that upside down. Kids and adults alike love this event, and the teens that volunteer do too, with there even being a waiting list just to participate.

The zoo is typically about the animals, but during this event, it’s more about the decoration because the animals are asleep. Although the animals are typically not out, in certain areas, you can still see them! Such as the polar bear exhibit, and so many others. “It was really fun getting to work in the environment around all the animals while also getting to see all the creative costumes from the families attending from the community,” junior Brooke Daniel said.

This event is so popular and fun that the students of Bullitt East constantly talk about it. The kids who signed up for this were mostly Juniors and Seniors due to the popularity of this event – teacher Nicole Perugini is the main teacher and leader that decides who gets to go. It may be grueling work to stand in the October cold for 5 hours with no breaks, but to them it’s all worth it. “The smiles on the kids’ faces were priceless,” junior Danica Haney said.

There’s nothing better than the spirit of Halloween time. This event gives the Beta/NHS club students a benchmark project as well as a great time, and the Bullitt East community is so glad we get to experience this every year. “It was fun and I enjoyed it. I probably most enjoyed seeing the kids get all excited to get the candy,” said junior Mason Mattingly.
