Our greatest skill is what we can create.
Art Club is one of those programs where you can take your creativity and build something unique. With different kids coming together to help the community and build up their strengths.
The Art Club can open a lot of opportunities for kids at BE. Whether it’s to make friends or to build something creative. “It’s a place to hang out, and if you have an art class, you can work on it in there,” Nick Garvin, a freshman, said.
Or whether you want to test your creative abilities. “It has helped me get my creative flow back, and it’s really helped me get different views and different art styles and work with different art styles,” Ava Clark, a senior, said.
Lauren Kersey is the director of Art Club after taking the role this year to help Jason Kelty in her first year at BE. Her love for Art Club has helped her step into the shoes that she can easily fill. “So far, it’s a great place for all my super artistic kids to come socialize,” Kersey said.
Kersey’s passion for art comes from her high school art teacher, but what really inspires her is her favorite artist, Vincent Vangogh. Trying to show her kids her passion for art is one of the main things she teaches. “I know art can be something that can bring a lot of people together,” Kersey said.
Overall, Kersey and her love for art are shown while helping the community and working with the kids in her club. They have done great things, and the skills that they have developed will continue to grow. “Art is a skill, not a talent. Even if you feel like you’re not doing great in the beginning, you can learn and practice so you can turn it into a skill that you have,” Kersey said.
