From Dismissal to Demonstration.
On February 13th, 2026, a group of Bullitt East High School students planned to hold a walkout at 1:40 pm, during a homecoming assembly. Many high schools across the nation have been holding similar walkouts and protests in response to the recent controversy surrounding ICE.
On the “chargeraction” Instagram page, a post was made on February third calling for a walkout on the front sidewalk of Bullitt East High School. The purpose of the walkout was to “Speak out against the illegal and violent actions committed by ICE,” the post stated.
Then, another post was created on February third listing statistics about ICE arrests and claiming that “ICE is violating the Constitution…”
A final post written on February eighth announced that the walkout had been changed to a protest to be held at 2:10 pm, after the school day had ended. Apparently, the people who had planned the walkout were “Not aware of the pep rally planned that day,” the caption wrote.
The post then continued with urging people to bring signs, flags, and to “use your voice!” It was also made clear that the protest was meant to be a peaceful one. “Don’t damage school property or touch any of the construction sites around. Be respectful of the pickup line and drivers on 44. Don’t engage anyone trying to instigate a reaction. Stay peaceful and collected.”
The protest did see some attendees, bringing out a lot of strong opinions. Some were against it, believing that the action would only disrupt school and not actually change anything. “Yeah, this is gonna go horribly,” a commenter under one of the posts said.
Others were in support of it, saying that people should use their voice when they think something is wrong. “It’s completely necessary for us to voice our opinions because if we don’t, problems won’t get fixed,” Caleb Masterson said.
